The building...

This facility is housed in an older building that dates back over fifty years. We have spent considerable time and effort to renovate and modernize the building, upgrade the classrooms and equip each room with materials in order to provide each child the best learning experience possible.
The building currently boasts:
  • Four (4) large classrooms with attached washrooms.
  • Two large age appropriate, well equipped and secure private playgrounds with natural grass.
  • A fully equipped kitchen (to feed our hungry children).

Emergency Procedures...

We have a comprehensive emergency and evacuation plan in place for all types of eventualities and situations. All families are provided with details of this plan and communication with parents/ families in an emergency situation. All parents/ families are provided with the physical address of the evacuation point at the time of registration.

The playgrounds

The playgrounds were redesigned and rebuilt in 2018. A minimalist approach was used in the design so as to allow for open areas of both natural grass and asphalt. The minimalist approach makes for a more interactive surrounding where physical activity and creativity are part of a child's play. We have found the "blank slate" playground" encourages  children set up their own scenarios and goals where they often use teamwork to accomplish these set goals. In the warmer months, this natural, open space becomes an "outdoor classroom", where children are introduced to planting and why caring for nature is important.

Natural grass over artificial was an easy choice to make. We wanted to give the children a "real" experience that goes beyond a "looks natural" mindset. It is important for children to understand, firsthand, their role in preserving their surroundings and a "real" environment allows them to see and clearly to understand the impact their actions have on nature. On our part, is it a lot more effort and maintenance? YES, but the benefits to the children are well worth it!

The best part of our playground's story is that  was built by some of our parents. So it was a true East End Scholars community project. Something we are passionate about in maintaining.

Security...

The safety and security of the children and our staff is our primary concern. In order to ensure this is maintained, we action the following:
  • Secure access control to the building
  • 24 hour CCTV internal and external (Not internet enabled)
  • No unscheduled visitors/ contractors
  • No unknown person allowed on premise
  • Emergency Policy & Procedures available in all Classroom
